West Coast Yacht Support was founded to bridge the gap between yacht owners and the high-quality services they need while cruising the West Coast. With decades of combined experience in the yachting industry, we understand the unique challenges and requirements of yacht operation.

Based in San Diego, our company leverages extensive local knowledge and a wide network of trusted vendors to provide comprehensive support services for vessels of all sizes. From captain services to customs clearance, shore support and refit management, we handle the complexities of yacht ownership so you can focus on enjoying your vessel and all the amazing attractions that San Diego has to offer.
Meet the Captain
Captain Jaco Stofberg
With over 18 years of hands-on experience in the yachting industry, I’ve worked on vessels ranging from 65' to 180', developing a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges that come with life at sea. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty — I thrive on being involved in every aspect of a project and am driven by a passion for learning, growth, and excellence.

My journey began in 2006 as a freelance deckhand at the old Knight & Carver shipyard in San Diego aboard M/Y Xilonin. By 2008, I had advanced to First Officer on the 147' charter yacht Tuscan Sun, gaining invaluable experience cruising the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, and U.S. East Coast under Captain Gui Garcia.

Through continuous study and hands-on work aboard various yachts, I earned the skills to become Captain of the 112' Primadonna in 2012. My career progressed further with five years as Captain of the 130' Westport Desperado, cruising the Bahamas and Caribbean en route to California. During the pandemic, I took on the dual role of Captain and Project Manager for Paliador at Marine Group Boat Works in 2020.
After completing that refit — and welcoming our daughter, Ava — I joined Northrop & Johnson as a yacht sales professional. This role allowed me to stay connected to the local and international yachting communities while continuing to offer captain and management services to both local and visiting yachts.

In 2021, I founded the West Coast Captains network on WhatsApp, which has become a growing hub of support, connection, and collaboration among captains in the region. This network exemplifies our commitment to fostering a strong maritime community and ensuring the highest standards of service across the industry.
